How We Test & Our Sources
Every guide here is written from hands-on use on a real iPhone, dated, and updated when iOS or an app changes the steps.
How we make a guide
- We run the actual steps on an iPhone before publishing — not copy-pasted instructions.
- We note the iOS or app version where a step depends on it, and date every page (see "Updated" at the top).
- When Apple or an app moves a button, we revise the page. Found something stale? Tell us.
Sources we rely on
- Apple's official documentation — the iPhone User Guide and iMovie support for what iOS and Apple's own apps can and can't do.
- Each app's current behavior — we re-check features (auto-captions, watermark, SRT export, offline use) in the live app, since they change between versions.
- Our own testing — we caption real clips and confirm the export before we describe it.
Where we stand on Subly
We build the Subly app, and we say so on every page. We recommend it only where it genuinely fits — on-device, offline, watermark-free captioning — and we name the real alternatives (Clips, CapCut, Captions) and tell you when a free, built-in tool is all you need. The full policy is on our About page.
iOS and app features change; steps are accurate as of the date on each page. Always confirm against the latest version before you rely on them.
